Reflecting on the Success of the Summit of Champions: Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Future

Updated: Nov 27, 2023

The Summit of Champions, held on August 27 and 28, 2023, was a memorable experience for all involved; having brought together young minds from different Girls Got This Programs. This celebration of the International Youth Day (August 12, 2023) and the World Day of Play (August 27, 2023) was made possible through the generous support of Playtech Recovery and Resiliency-Charities Aid Foundation (The UK) and the Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation Inc. Under the theme “Green Skills and Play for Youth towards a Sustainable World,” the summit left a mark on the 30 attendees, fostering environmental consciousness and personal growth.

The Theme: Green Skills and Play for Youth towards a Sustainable World

The theme was a harmonious blend of the essence of International Youth Day – “Green Skills for Youth towards a Sustainable World” – and the spirit of the World Day of Play, with the theme, “Playing towards Sustainability”.

Objectives Met:

1. Establishing Play as a Form of Expressive Arts.

The summit conveyed that play transcends mere pastime; it is a form of expressive art. Through a football game, the youth participants experience firsthand how play can be a medium for creativity, self-expression, and teamwork. This activity illuminated the transformative potential of play, proving that it is more than just fun – it’s a powerful vehicle to self-discovery.

2. Developing teamwork, self-awareness, and leadership skills.

In the spirit of camaraderie and collaboration, the summit provided a platform for the youth to develop vital life skills. Interactive activities developed the youth participants’ teamwork, self-awareness, negotiation skills, and leadership capabilities– equipping them to become catalysts for positive change in their communities.

3. Raising Awareness of Proper Waste Management.

Environmental consciousness lies at the heart of sustainability. The summit addressed this by raising awareness about proper waste management. Through sessions and practical demonstrations, the youth participants gained valuable insights into waste reduction, recycling, and the broader concept of eco-friendly living.

The Summit of Champions was more than just a celebration; it was a resounding call to action. It reinforced the notion that today’s youth are the leaders of tomorrow, and their engagement in sustainability efforts is not an option but a necessity. By promoting the fusion of green skills and play, the summit ensured that the journey towards a sustainable world is both educational and enjoyable.

As the Girls Got This Program and FundLife International Inc. – Cebu team reflect on this momentous event, we continuously invite the youth, the partner schools, and communities to support this mission of empowering the youth to play their part in creating a greener, more sustainable future. Together we can harness the joy of play as a formidable force for positive change, ensuring that the dreams of a sustainable world become a reality.
