Dulag, Leyte – May 15-16, 2025 – In a powerful stride towards ensuring safety in play and education, FundLife successfully conducted a two-day First Aid Training at the scenic Sabang Daguitan Surf Camp in Dulag, Leyte. This initiative brought together a diverse group of community members to learn essential first aid skills that are critical in supporting safe spaces for young learners and athletes.
The training was facilitated by expert responders from the Dulag Emergency Response and Rescue Unit (DERRU), including Mr. Elmer Longcop, Mr. Rolando Lagunzad, Jr., Mr. Geoffrey Baldo, and Mr. Jan Gabriel Abrenio. Their expertise provided participants with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience in managing medical emergencies.
Day One covered foundational topics such as medical emergencies, environmental injuries, types of wounds, bandaging techniques, and splinting. The sessions focused on real-world scenarios, especially those common in sports settings, empowering participants to respond effectively during FundLife’s play-based sessions and community tournaments.
Moreover, the second day featured a short but impactful introduction to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), followed by live demonstrations and simulation activities. Participants practiced applying bandages, splinting limbs, and responding to emergency scenarios, boosting their confidence to act during actual emergencies.
The event brought together around 25 participants, comprising FundLife Youth Mentors and staff, Sangguniang Kabataan leaders from Brgy. Rawis, youth from Brgy. Cabacungan, Barangay Health Workers from Rawis and Serrano, representatives from the Municipal Social Welfare Development Office, educators from Rawis Elementary School and Dulag National High School, and even professionals from 3R Design Build. This rich mix of participants fostered cross-sectoral collaboration and community bonding with shared responsibility in mind as project partners.
The training is part of FundLife’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding young people and creating nurturing environments for learning and growth. By preparing mentors, educators, and community leaders to manage injuries and emergencies, FundLife strengthens the protective framework around children, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds.
This initiative directly supports FundLife’s mission of using play and experiential learning to empower youth while prioritizing their safety and well-being. It ensures that play-based education not only inspires dreams, but also guarantees safety and protection along the way.
FundLife extends its deepest gratitude to the Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office of Dulag, under the leadership of Atty. Leah Caminong and the Local Government Unit of Dulag. Their unwavering support and partnership were instrumental in making this training possible and meaningful. Their commitment to youth welfare and emergency preparedness is a testament to the power of community-centered leadership.
As FundLife continues to grow its programs and reach, first aid education will remain a cornerstone of its approach. The recent training in Dulag is a milestone and a movement towards building resilient communities where every child is safe, valued, and enabled to dream in colour.
