“What advice can you give to the girls in case they want to be an online seller or entrepreneur?” the question, which was thrown last Saturday, March 20, 2021 culminated the virtual session of Girls Got This ‘Works’.
Miss Isabella Malixi is a senior at NYU in Shanghai. She is majoring in Finance and minoring in Computer Science and Creative Writing. She was born and raised in the Philippines, but her family moved to Dubai when she started high school, so she graduated there. She is also the Founder and President of Women at Work, which is a student run club at NYU Shanghai. The club aims to create a safe place for dialogue on gender issues, provide students’ career advice and opportunities, and act by doing consulting and volunteering for NGOs.
With Isabella’s background in Finance and Computer Science, she braved the competitive world of digital selling and marketing. Admittedly, she found online selling very challenging but because she has the drive to make things happen, she started selling second-hand books, clothes and other items.
The girls were totally interested about her endeavour thus far and they came up with these questions:
How do you create a Shopee account?
How much was your investment and how do you manage your earning?
Why do you use bubble wrap?
Are you making your own stickers?
Miss Isabella graced our girls with answers, and finally, she gave these three important pieces of advice to the girls:
“First, have the courage to do it. It may be challenging at first but eventually, you will learn the ropes about online selling. Second, be excited to be a seller! Do not be afraid to become a seller if you are passionate about your business. Finally, don't let anybody stop you! Make many options for your customers; sell as many items as you can!”
