Futsal Tournament during Mayor’s Cup was held at FundLife’s GACC

On January 20, 2024, the Tacloban Mayor’s Cup 2024 Futsal Tournament was held at the newly-constructed Futsal Court in Generation Amazing Community Club (GACC) located at Brgy 106, Sto. Niño, Tacloban City. GACC is currently managed by FundLife.

The five teams that competed for the Mayor’s Cup were Antonio Balmes National High School (ABNHS), Leyte National High School (LNHS), Northern Tacloban City National High School (NTCHS), Sagkahan National High School (SNHS) and St. Therese Educational Foundation, Inc. (STEFTI.)  A total of 56 girls ages 13-17 participated in 25 exciting futsal matches. The winning team will have the chance to compete for and represent Tacloban City during the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet.

Ms. Maria Victoria Basilia-Yee, the Stakeholder Engagement Specialist at FundLife, represented the organization during the Mayor’s Cup. She welcomed the players and their families and coaches to the GACC- a space which was built to support children and youth’s passion for learning and for playing futsal. She participated in the ceremonial kick alongside Mr. Feigi Louie D. Pedrera, the Tournament Director of Futsal from DepEd Tacloban Division.

Mr. Pedrera was truly grateful to FundLife for allowing them access to the space. “This is the nicest space where we held the Mayor’s Cup.” The multisport community center was established to provide a secure, safe, and inclusive space for children and youth, particularly for the most vulnerable, such as girls, non-binaries, and PWDs.

FundLife extended its support to the 2024 Mayor's Cup by providing sports kits to 75 players participating in FundLife's Football for Life Academy (FFLA). These FFLA players constitute a part of the more than 300 children and youth who regularly participate in FundLife programming. The distribution comprised water bottles and knee socks.

The partnership between FundLife and DepEd Tacloban endeavors to continue, primarily in providing young girls and women with a space and platform to play and enhance their athletic abilities.
