“I am a girl with big dreams who grew up in the mountains,” said Arlene, as she officially commenced the Online Champion Session.
Arlene is a Registered Nurse, Yoga Teacher, Aerial Fitness Instructor, Reiki Practitioner, Cacao Priestess, and Free Diver. She is free-spirited and always thinks outside the box.
Looking back as a kid, she wanted to become a teacher as she was inspired by one of her teachers during elementary school. She noted that there is fulfillment in being able to share your knowledge with someone. So, she dreamt of being an educator.
But fate turned out a bit differently and she studied to be a nurse instead. Being a rather sickly kid, she wanted to help out those who are sick the way she had been taken care of when she was young.
However, when she suffered from an illness as an adult that led to her not being able to walk for a time, she got introduced to yoga.
Yoga is a form of mind-body fitness that involves a combination of muscular activity and an internally directed mindful focus on awareness of the self, the breath, and energy.
She shared that by truly knowing oneself, hard work, patience, and perseverance, your goals can be achieved.
And eventually, she still fulfilled her dream of becoming a teacher by sharing her expertise with those who are interested in Yoga.
The second part of the session is the Question and Answer where Arlene answered some questions from the young girls about the benefits of Yoga. Arlene emphasized to the young girls that meditation is essential especially now that there is so much background noise that somehow challenges our focus. Arlene encouraged the young girls to do Yoga since it will help them to be more focused and healthier.
The last part was a meditation session and learning some beginner yoga poses with the guidance of Arlene. As Coach Marvin puts it, some of his body pains were gone after the yoga session.
Arlene also shared that through yoga, our bodies are stretched, and if we do it consistently, we can look thinner, taller, and younger.
The champion session was indeed an insightful and challenging one at the same time with having to balance on one foot while your eyes are closed.
