Championing Health: FundLife's Xylem Water Heroes Project Equip Teachers and Youth Mentors to Combat Water-Borne Diseases and Promote Safe Sanitation

As part of the Xylem Water Heroes Project, FundLife organized a transformative two-day capacity-building session to combat food and water-borne diseases and promote water sanitation. Held on February 15 and 16, 2024, at El Palacio Restaurant and Function Hall in Tacloban City, the seminar-workshop brought together 33 public school teachers from Tacloban City and Libertad Elementary School in Palo, Leyte, along with dedicated FundLife Youth Mentors.

The event's primary goal was to equip educators and youth mentors with essential knowledge to design effective, play-based learning sessions for children. Ms. Jenny Anne Llosa, a nurse and sanitary inspector from the Tacloban City Health Office, led the first day of the workshop as the resource speaker. She provided in-depth insights into various food and water-borne diseases, emphasizing the crucial role of clean water and nutritious food in maintaining good health.

On the second day, the workshop took a hands-on approach, as participants collaborated to create engaging activities that would help children absorb the critical lessons learned. Using football and other interactive methods, teachers and mentors developed and demonstrated activities that effectively transferred their newly acquired knowledge to young minds.

The participants' activities were evaluated based on these criteria to encourage creativity, inclusivity, and gender sensitivity. FundLife awarded the team that presented the best set of activities a cash prize of Php 1,000, recognizing their innovative and thoughtful approach.

In addition to the valuable learning experience, attendees were gifted water disinfectants from the City Health Office as a token of appreciation for their participation.

Through this initiative, FundLife and Xylem Water Heroes continue to empower educators and communities, ensuring that vital health knowledge is passed on to future generations in a fun and engaging way.
