A Transformative Weekend of Leadership and Futsal with Life Skills Plus Girls

On November 23 and 24, 2024, FundLife held a two-day Play Leadership Training event in Tacloban City, designed to empower young girls and nurture their leadership potential through sports' unifying and transformative power. The event combined a Futsal Clinic, mentorship sessions on leadership and responding to abuse, and an immersive Futsal Festival.

The event brought together 18 girls from partner schools, including Tacloban Night High School, Tacloban National Agricultural School, V&G National High School, and Scandinavian National High School. These young participants eagerly embraced the opportunity to enhance their skills on and off the field.

The Futsal Clinic was a platform for teaching teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence. Engaging in sports taught the girls valuable lessons about perseverance and determination—essential for future leaders.

Beyond futsal, the mentorship sessions delved into critical topics affecting young women today. The discussions on leadership helped the participants recognize their potential to inspire and lead others. Meanwhile, conversations about responding to abuse equipped them with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves and advocate for their peers. These sessions emphasized that leadership is not just about guiding others but also about standing up for oneself and promoting equality.

The highlight of the second day was the futsal tournament, which showcased the girls' newfound skills and teamwork. The competitive yet friendly matches fostered camaraderie among participants and strengthened their bonds.

More importantly, the event served as a stepping stone for girls with leadership potential to become Youth Mentors under FundLife's programs. These young leaders will have the opportunity to extend their influence by advocating for gender equality and inspiring their communities.

The Play Leadership Training was a movement to create a ripple effect of empowerment. By bringing these young women together, FundLife laid the foundation for a network of empowered girls who will champion gender equality and inspire others to dream in color.

This initiative is a testament to the power of play and experiential learning in transforming lives. As FundLife continues to advocate for children’s rights and gender equality, we remain committed to creating safe spaces where girls can thrive, dream, and lead.

FundLife remains steadfast in building a world where every child has the tools and opportunities to determine their future.
